NEWS & AWARDS

What a journey I have been on so far with The Little Story Telling Company! I have been so proud of the news articles in the local papers documenting my journey. I was really delighted with the publicity surrounding my award of a community grant from the British Science Association to perform my DNA workshop “Is my Grandfather a World War II Hero”. The article meant I could reach a wider audience and more people could come to the session and learn about DNA and be inspired by science.

I was over the moon when I found out I was a finalist in the Business Parent of the Year 2016- Mum and Working awards. I was invited to a fantastic award ceremony in London where I was announced as “highly commended” in this category and was invited on stage to receive my certificate. It was an incredible moment and felt like a huge acknowledgement for all the work I had been doing. What was really special was that as I received by award one of the judges said to me “Keep doing what you are doing. It is fantastic”. I am just about to have a visit from the judges for the EDP Business awards 2017. So I am keeping my fingers crossed!

I was also delighted to receive a certificate for the work I have done as a STEM Ambassador. I am lucky to be able to volunteer to help with many science projects in my local area and to be able to help to run sessions for groups who otherwise may not be able to afford to have these workshops. One of my favourites was speaking at a session at a local high school to encourage young girls into following science as a career. The feedback was amazing with lots of girls telling me that they had been inspired to follow this pathway when previously they doubted whether they were good enough to take this subject or that it was too difficult.
